This is a Massachusetts State Police SSP Mustang! This is an unmarked unit that was used to blend in with civilian cars and stop speeding traffic. This unit enforced the speed limit on major highways excluding the Mass Turnpike, as this was ordered by the State Police and not the Turnpike Authority.
Research shows that up only five Special Service Package Mustangs were commissioned around the era of #2702 in Massachusetts. Note that this not include the any GT's or LX hatchbacks used. Massachusetts commissioned Mustangs under two different names, the Massachusetts State Police and the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority. A red MA Turnpike Authority SSP was recently found in a junkyard in GA completely stripped and severely damaged. Recently, with the help of a few others, another red MA SSP is known of, but we are still trying to track it down and get more info of the current where-abouts! One blue (MSP) SSP is in the hands of another Mustang collector in Massachusetts. This collector had this one as well until he sold it to me. This means that this is one of two (as of currently) known surviving MA State Police SSP's and one of two in blue (now black), making this a 1 of 2 car for color, 1 of 5 all-together!
This is not a mint condition car, but a clean (mostly interior), restorable one that has suffered through many years of New England weather. In my opinion, it is not in bad shape considering what it has been through for just over 71,000 miles, however, don't be fooled. I have my work ahead of me! There is major rust and rot that aren't clearly distinguishable in the photo! Since body parts are available everywhere, there will be little "custom" fabrication, as most of the work will be done using all new fitted sheets of metal. This car will remain 100% original and true to it's in-service heritage as a MA State Police unmarked car.
